Caregiving and Quality of Care

Today there is growing concern about the quality of healthcare and the need for care to be centered around the patient.

WHYY's Wider Horizons produces programming about these issues and hopes to provide information to help individuals, families and caregivers find the resources they need to make informed decisions.

Circle of Care

Premieres 8pm, Wed. March 29, 2006 on TV12.

Circle of Care explores the role of the arts and humanities in improving communication between patients, families and professionals through local storiesof individuals and institutions using music, painting, poetry and theatre in healthcare.

More than 25 million family members provide at least 20 hours of care a week to an ailing loved one. More than 50 million Americans provide some level of care to a loved one. Over the next decade, an estimated 47 million Baby Boomers will become caregivers to a parent, relative or friend, and thousands of seniors will face the burden of caring for a chronically ill spouse.

Circle of Love

WHYY's Circle of Love explores family caregiving and chronic illness through innovative first-person television documentaries that followed the lives of local families Living with Alzheimer's, Caring for Children with Special Needs, and Caring for an Aging Parent.

Wider Horizons, in partnership with its Caring Community coalition of more than 100 organizations, provides resources and outreach to families and professionals around caregiving, chronic illness and end-of-life issues. The Delaware End-of-Life Coalition focuses on professional training.
