Bike Fresh Bike Local

January 2011

The lush farmland and beautiful landscapes of Southeastern Pennsylvania will be on view on this segment of Art of Food. Bike Fresh Bike Local is an annual event organized in collaboration with area bike clubs. The bike tour welcomes riders of all abilities with a choice of three different routes--a 25 mile ride, a 50 mile ride and a 75 mile ride. The event will begin and end at Victory Brewing Company in Downingtown. The $35 advance registration fee includes a tee shirt, rest stops that feature energy drinks and wholesome snacks (along with baked goods provided by the culinary programs of Philadelphia high schools), and a post-ride lunch of deliciously fresh local foods and legendary Victory microbrews.

Bike Fresh Bike Local Chester County, whose proceeds benefit the Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture (PASA), takes its name from the Buy Fresh Buy Local national educational campaign and is meant to highlight those efforts.

"The route takes riders soaring along un-trafficked country roads next to small farms that tend to the land the way it should be tended, and raise the kind of foods we want our children to be eating," says Royer Smith, one of the organizers, a PASA supporter and executive chef at LaSalle University.

Register for PASA's 4th Annual Bike Fresh Bike Local on September 25th, 2011
