THURSDAY NOVEMBER 1 - NOVEMBER: A BIG TRANSITION MONTH
On average, October is our most tranquil month weatherwise, and this past month
certainly lived up to that billing. In November, however, the weather tends to
become a lot more active.
In the month to come, we'll continue to lose daylight at a pretty good clip, with
nights lengthening by nearly an hour from the start to the end of the month. With the
sun rising a little less high in the sky each day, average highs drop from 61oF
today
to 49oF by November 30. Just as significant, by the
end of the month the average
overnight low temperature will drop to just above the freezing mark.
And yes, that "snow" word will start creeping into forecasts in the coming month.
Though not a guarantee, snow is much more likely in November than in October.
Snowflakes have been observed in the Wilmington and Philadelphia areas in only 15%
of all Octobers, but in 75% of all Novembers. For the record, we haven't officially
had any snow in November since 1997.
