THURSDAY MAY 30 - THE DELAWARE RIVER SOJOURN

Tomorrow an event begins that aims to increase awareness and appreciation of the Delaware River's ecological, historical, recreational, and economic significance. This "Delaware River Sojourn" lasts through June 8 and combines canoeing and camping with educational programs and visits.

The Sojourn is for those who love canoeing or are curious about the outdoors. You can sign up for the entire eight-day trip or just for a day or two. A typical day includes 10 to 15 miles of paddling, recreational stops, evening programs, and camping along the river. The sojourn starts tomorrow on the upper Delaware near Port Jervis, where New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania meet, and ends next Saturday at the John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge at Tinicum, near Philadelphia. In between, the sojourn includes visits to the Delaware Water Gap, Washington's Crossing, and the Brandywine Valley.

The Sojourn is a partnership of many organizations, including the Delaware River Basin Commission and the New Jersey and Pennsylvania Departments of Environmental Protection. You can get more information about the Sojourn from a link on the DRBC's web site at www.drbc.net.
