THURSDAY MAY 17 - OZONE: PART 4

Reducing ozone pollution really boils down to reducing the levels of the other pollutants that trigger ozone formation. The government is trying to aid this reduction in several ways, including vehicle emissions inspections in some counties, and the flexible covers on the nozzles of gas pumps that help prevent vapors from escaping into the air.

You personally can help reduce ozone pollution by limiting your driving, especially on Ozone Action! Days. Also, keep the engines on your car and lawn equipment tuned up. Delay mowing the lawn a day or two until air quality improves. And if you have to refuel, do it after dark. Finally, conserving energy is always a good idea because power plants spew tons of ozone-causing pollutants into the air.

This EPA website

www.epa.gov/airnow

is a great place to get ozone information. There you'll find real-time data about ozone levels, and tomorrow's ozone forecast. With this web site, and through local media outlets, you're set to track ozone pollution levels throughout the summer.
