THURSDAY MARCH 14 - WINTER REVIEW
Though winter isn't officially over yet, we are finished with meteorological winter -
that is, the months of December, January, and February.
Here's a look at
temperatures for each region of the country for that three-month
period. Tan is warmer-than-average, orange is much-warmer-than-average, and red
means it was the warmest winter on record - that was the case in the Northeast. Note
the lack of any blue, which would have indicated colder-than-average. At the state
level, it was the warmest winter on record in New Jersey, second warmest in Delaware,
and third warmest in Pennsylvania.
Here's
precipitation for the same period - orange means much-drier-than-average,
and that's what we were. In fact, for the entire Northeast, it was the sixth
driest winter on record. At the state level, it was the driest in New Jersey,
second driest in Delaware, and sixth driest in Pennsylvania. So obviously this dry winter
only compounded our drought worries which began last fall.
