TUESDAY JANUARY 29 - NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE, PART 2
Of all the products that the National Weather Service issues, you're probably
most familiar with the
seven-day forecasts that are updated at least twice a day,
around 4am and 4pm. These "local forecasts" are the ones shown every ten minutes
on The Weather Channel.
But Weather Service meteorologists also issue many other statements. They provide
aviation forecasts
for seven major airports in the area that include predictions
of wind, visibility, precipitation, and cloud ceiling. They also issue
marine
forecasts and warnings for Delaware Bay and coastal waters from Sandy Hook, NJ
to Fenwick Island, not to mention
fire weather forecasts
used by forestry officials.
All of these products are made available on the
Weather Service's web site, as
are flood and winter storm watches and warnings, drought statements, heavy surf
advisories, and severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings, just to name a few more.
