WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 26 - SNOWFALL PROBABILITY IN LATE DECEMBER
Let's face it, there's a lot of pressure on the weather around the holidays to
produce at least a little snow. But in reality, snow isn't all that common in this
area this early in the winter.
Based on historical records from the last 100 years, if you're looking for an inch or
more of snow to fall on exactly this date, you have only about a 1 in 25 chance. But
if you'd just be satisfied with an inch of more of leftover snow on the ground, your
chances go up to 1 in 8.
Nationwide, here's the
historical probability of having at least one inch of snow on
the ground on this date. It's pretty much a cinch in the areas colored white in much
of the Rockies, northern Minnesota and Wisconsin, and extreme northern New England.
There's little chance in the areas in brown, in the southern one-third of the country
and the Far West.
