MONDAY APRIL 8 - EARLIEST 90oF DAYS
We're a week into April now and the average high temperature is almost 60oF.
And based on historical records, it's not too early to start dreaming of heat worthy
of summertime.
"Hot," of course, is a relative term, but around here 90 degrees is a reasonable
threshold. With that definition in mind, it's actually been "hot" this early in
the spring. In fact, back in 1929, this was the second straight day of 90oF
weather, marking the earliest in the spring that the thermometer has ever reached
that lofty level.
Interestingly, despite that early-season brush with heat, April 1929 didn't even
make the top 10 warmest Aprils - in fact, it's not even in the top 20. The reason:
the rest of the month was generally cloudy and wet, with more than six inches of
rain - a good example of just how fickle and changeable April weather can be.
