The First Amendment in the New Millennium
WHYY's partnership with the new National Constitution Center, which was opened to the public on July 4, is off to a solid start. WHYY taped the first content event ever to be held at the NCC on July 8 with the NCC and the Philadelphia Bar Association as partners.
"The First Amendment in the New Millennium" was a panel discussion on key issues such as the right to privacy in the face of national security concerns and free expression on and across the Internet. The program, moderated by Michele Norris, one of National Public Radio's rotating All Things Considered hosts, will be broadcast on WHYY-TV September 17, 2003, which is Constitution Day.
Panelists were:
- First Amendment expert Floyd Abrams
- Marci A. Hamilton, Thomas H. Lee Chair of Public Law, Benjamin N. Cardozo Law School, Yeshiva University
- Solomon Watson, Senior Vice President and General Counsel, New York Times
- Seth P. Waxman, former Solicitor General of the United States
The audience included lawyers, judges and business, civic and community leaders.
