WHYY Digital Datacasting in Higher Education

For the past several years, WHYY has worked with an education consortium and an online technology company called Webstudy to offer internet based courses for college credit at several participating area colleges.

Datacasting is being tested to enhance this online learning experience. High quality multimedia content is very difficult to distribute using standard internet connections. These large files can be transmitted via datacasting and stored on the user's PC. Using the Webstudy software, the instructor can reference these files to play back in the regular user interface, as shown above.
