The documentary looks at what it means to be one of the most successful film directors, producers and screenwriters of Hollywood's Golden Age. For Wilder's first television biography, AMERICAN MASTERS was given unprecedented access to his personal archives. In addition, the program includes scenes from Wilder classics and interviews with wife Audrey Wilder, actresses Nancy Olson and Shirley MacLaine, critic Andrew Sarris and writer Robert Towne.
