Construction of the majestic Gothic-Romanesque cathedral Bryn Aythn (Welsh for Hill of Cohesion) started in 1913 and took more than 30 years to complete. Bryn Thyn cathedral is one of the world centers of the Church of the New Jerusalem; a latter-day Christian sect based on the writing of the 18th century scientist and philosopher, Emmanuel Swedenborg. On the lush grounds of the site there is a Choir Hall with teak cabinets displaying collections of Swedenborg's religious and scientific writings. The main section is 14th century Gothic style, but with curving walls that seem to open as they rise 56 feet. There is a chancel, which is shrouded, in a purple haze created by daylight coming through red and blue stained-glass windows. Throughout the cathedral there are also design features that symbolize aspects of the religion.

The Reverend Tom Kline discusses Emmanuel Swedenborg and the history of the church. Watch here.
