1969: PBS is born

Mister Rogers' Neighborhood — now the longest-running children's program on PBS — debuts on TV12 in 1967. Two years later in 1969, WHYY joins 194 other public broadcasting stations to establish the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) as a national organization to share programs and meet common interests. Another one of public television's iconic children's programs, Sesame Street, makes its debut.
