WHYY: WHYY, Inc. is a Pennsylvania corporation, which operates the prime public broadcasting stations, TV12 and 91FM, in the tri-state area.

WHYY'S PURPOSE: WHYY's purpose is "to contribute to the quality of life by providing education, information, entertainment and inspiration for all." As a partner to local cultural, governmental and educational institutions, WHYY will be the critical link in enhancing the region's life-long learning programs, supporting its economic life and development and enriching the cultural well-being of its citizens.

TV12: TV12 is a community public television station licensed to the City of Wilmington, DE. WHYY has been on the air more than 40 years. Some 2.16 million households in the tri-state area tune to TV12 each month.

TV12 SIGNAL: TV12 serves the nation's fourth largest market -- more than 2.6 million households. It covers the entire greater Philadelphia region and extends south to Dover, DE; east to Atlantic City; northeast to New Brunswick, NJ; and west to Lancaster, PA.

CH 64: Channel 64 in Seaford, DE, also assigned to WHYY, Inc., broadcasts TV12 programming to an additional 60,000 households in southern Delaware.

CABLE: Approximately 100 cable systems bring TV12's signal to even more homes.

91FM: 91FM, a community public radio station, licensed to the City of Philadelphia, has been on the air more than 40 years. More than 300,000 listeners tune to 91FM each week for in-depth news, information and analyses.

91FM SIGNAL: The 91FM signal reaches north to Princeton, NJ; south to New Castle County, DE; and is heard throughout the greater Philadelphia region.

OTHER SERVICES:

WHYY's Home College Service, in its second year, is one of the top providers of distance learning in the public broadcasting system, with nearly 12,500 enrollments.

WHYY's Ready to Learn Service, in its third year, has helped 1,800 day-care providers prepare 32,400 young children to enter school in the tri-state area.

Education Connection is a six-state, five-year partnership to test how technology can be used to enhance K through 12 learning, and WHYY is connecting teachers, students and family in Delaware via the computer and the Internet.

Mathline is a national professional development effort for middle-school math teachers across the country, and WHYY is providing the service to middle-school teachers in Delaware in cooperation with community partners.

SUPPORT FOR WHYY: WHYY is supported primarily by individual members. Approximately 180,000 members contributed close to $11 million in WHYY's fiscal year 1997 or approximately half the total budget. The balance of WHYY's support comes from corporate, foundation and governmental grants.
