The Inspector Lynley Mysteries "In the Pursuit of the Proper Sinner"

Elizabeth George's popular investigative duo of Inspector Thomas Lynley (Nathaniel Parker) and Sergeant Barbara Havers (Sharon Small, pictured) returns to Mystery! with four all-new contemporary murder mysteries, beginning with what appears to be a ritualistic killing in Manchester. Complicating matters further is the recent demotion of Havers to a desk job -- a move she believes is not only unwarranted, but was supported by Lynley -- which makes for a less-than-civil working relationship between the two. Eager to win back her detective position, and Lynley's approval, Havers follows her own line of investigation into the case, taking her from the Manchester vice squad to the heart of a secret scientific community. Will her top-notch sleuthing regain Lynley's support, and get their friendship and successful partnership back on track? Sunday, June 26 at 9 p.m.

The New Heroes

Robert Redford hosts this enthralling four-part series that travels the globe to tell the stories of "social entrepreneurs" who are using their business skills to help desperate and destitute people make a new beginning, and create innovative enterprises that maximize human benefit rather than profit. In "Dreams of Sanctuary," viewers meet Moses Zulu, the head of a home and school for AIDS orphans in Zambia, and India's Kailash Satyarthi, who performs dangerous rescue missions on child slave camps and seeks to abolish slavery in his country through a network of child-friendly villages. The second program in the series, "Technology of Freedom," turns to the work of "compassionate capitalists" whose self-sustaining businesses benefit the people of the region: Martin Fisher and Nick Moon invented an economical water pump that gives Africa's farmers a chance to make a living, and Govindappa Venkataswamy makes sight-saving surgery (pictured) available for India's poor. Sweet Honey In The Rock: Raise Your Voice

Theirs are the voices of oppression, the voices of protest, the voices of spirit, hope and healing. For more than 30 years, the six African-American women who make up the Grammy-winning a cappella ensemble Sweet Honey In The Rock -- which takes its name from a religious parable about a land that was so rich, honey flowed from the rocks -- have been raising their powerful voices against injustice with music born of storytelling, slavery, spirituals and the Civil Rights movement. This American Masters documentary explores the group's roots and celebrates its music through behind-the-scenes rehearsal footage; interviews with founder Bernice Johnson Reagon and other Sweet Honey members; and performances of "Women Gather," "Fulani Chant" and "Wanting Memories." Sweet Honey's songs are not only faithful to a rich African-American cultural history, but also incorporate everything from hymns to jazz to rap for a sound that imparts the essence of the African musical legacy in America. Wednesday, June 29 at 10 p.m.

Online Extra: Sweet Honey founder Dr. Bernice Johnson Reagon talks about a lifetime immersed in music, politics and protest.

Live Aid: The Day the Music Changed the World

As Philadelphia and four other cities gear up for the global charity concert Live 8 on July 2, 2005, revisit its unforgettable predecessor -- staged in Philadelphia and London 20 years ago to aid victims of the massive famine in Ethiopia -- during this retrospective. The hour-long concert special showcases the most memorable performances from the dual sold-out shows, including U2's "Sunday Bloody Sunday"; Tina Turner and Mick Jagger (pictured) shaking to "It's Only Rock 'n' Roll"; Phil Collins with Sting on the peaceful "Every Breath You Take"; and Paul McCartney's rendition of the Beatles' classic "Let It Be," backed by David Bowie, Peter Townsend and thousands of concertgoers. It's the best way to get energized for tomorrow's concert, or get your fill of Live Aid magic if you choose not to brave the crowds (and the July sun) on the Ben Franklin Parkway. Friday, July 1 at 7 p.m. & 11 p.m.
