"Bashing Back"
The program shares stories of gays who courageously stood up to their oppressors. Writer Tom Truss visits his high school and fantasizes about not fighting back, and recounts how later in life, he did successfully. Also: Terri Gilbert tells how she bravely exposed a Christian high-tech company with an ill-mannered CEO; Kevin Barker deflates God Hates Fags protesters by beating them at their own game; and writer John Brennan (pictured) talks about depression in his teenage years and the "nothing left to lose" attitude that fueled his ferocity against the bigots who tormented him. Series aims to raise awareness
In this award-winning five-part series airing in observance of Gay and Lesbian Pride Month, producer/host David Gilmore (pictured) lends his microphone to members of America's gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender communities, allowing their personal experiences to illustrate the trials and triumphs of being openly gay in the 21st century. Each episode -- the best from the series' early seasons -- explores a different topic, including gay marriage; dealing with homophobia and discrimination; and stories of the first signs of being gay and "coming out." Poignant, humorous and personal, Gilmore's interviews reveal broader issues of self-awareness, personal identity and relationships that are familiar to everyone, not only those in the LGBT community.
