In
this audio preview,
Larry Kane shares some of his memories from 1964, the year The
Beatles took the United States by storm as they played in stadiums
and concert halls full of screaming fans. Just 21 years old
at the time, Kane was the only American reporter to accompany
the group on their North American tour, an experience he recently
captured in his best-selling book Ticket to Ride.

The
British Invasion
When
John, Paul, George and Ringo landed at JFK Airport on February
7, 1964, no one could have anticipated the national fervor this
rock 'n' roll quartet's arrival would cause.
The
Beatles in America: 1964 looks back at The Fab
Four's first tour of the United States (they played at Philadelphia's
Convention Hall 40 years ago on September 2), reliving the screams,
swoons, faints and infectious music that was at the root of
it all. Hosted by Paul Ingles, the two-hour special is brimming
with The Beatles' "number one" hits and features lesser-heard
gems that haven't been played publicly for 40 years; rare concert
recordings; and interviews with rock historians, reporters (including
legendary Philadelphia newscaster Larry Kane, who was the only
American journalist to travel with The Beatles on their entire
1964 U.S. tour) and the fans who were swept up in Beatlemania.
