  • The Opera Company of Philadelphia presents "The Italian Girl in Algiers"

    Mezzo-soprano Stephanie Blythe and tenor Juan Diego Florez will be featured in this new production of Rossini's "The Italian Girl in Algiers" at the Academy of Music, honoring 25 years of grand opera in the region. This will be Blythe's debut in this role and Florez' Company and U.S. role debut. The Opera Company is the fastest growing opera company in the nation and is committed to presenting well-known singers as well as emerging talents.

  • The Philadelphia Orchestra 100th Birthday Gala

    Internationally known for its distinctive sound, the Orchestra will celebrate its 100th anniversary and honor its musical legacy live from the Academy of Music. Conducted by Music Director Wolfgang Sawallisch, the concert showcases music and guest soloists closely associated with the Orchestra's first 100 years, including works by Bach, Dukas, Rachmaninoff, Copland and Stravinsky. Also included are performances by pianist Andre Watts, violinist Sarah Chang and baritone Thomas Hampson.

  • The Curtis Institute of Music 75th Anniversary Concert

    This concert by the Curtis Symphony Orchestra, recorded May 1, 2000 at the Academy of Music, commemorates the 75th anniversary of Curtis, a premiere training ground of some of the 20th century's most influential musicians. Curtis graduate Robert Spano conducts a program featuring the world premiere of a new composition by Curtis graduate Jennifer Higdon, as well as Brahms' 4th Symphony and Mozart's Third Violin Concerto with soloist Jaime Laredo.

  • Philadanco presents "The Night Before Christmas"
    Friday, December 15, at 8-9 p.m. (Rebroadcast: December 24 at 9 p.m.; January 1 at 9:30 a.m.)

    The world premiere production of "The Night Before Christmas," by internationally renowned choreographer Daniel Ezralow, will be recorded December 8 at the Annenberg Center. This program will also feature a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of this new work. Philadanco (The Philadelphia Dance Company) has grown in 30 years from a grass-roots organization to a celebrated international institution known for its artistic integrity and superbly trained dancers.
