As part of our commitment to education, the Public Media Commons works with educators from around the region providing professional development in areas of media literacy education, youth media production, and digital storytelling. We offer a variety of professional development workshops and trainings both internally and through partnerships with external organizations, such as the DCIU, Rosemont College, the University of the Sciences, and the University of Pennsylvania.

Visual Storytelling
As part of a workshop developed to equip teachers with skills in visual and digital storytelling, participants produced short first-person narratives, employing a variety of storytelling methods. The purpose of this course is to deconstruct the process of producing digital media, starting with written narratives, moving to drawn or illustrated narratives, and culminating in processing these digitally. Lessons and tutorial videos that can demonstrate how to reproduce this in your class will be available shortly. Examples of videos made by educators in this workshop are below:
