Excerpts from an interview with John Travolta

Patrick Stoner: Robin Williams once told me that you get three failures in Hollywood, and then your days of stardom are gone forever. That, he said, is why they keep the La Brea tarpits in L.A. You seem to have emerged from the stickiness of former stardom and gotten another turn above ground.

Travolta: That's true, but I wasn't bitter when my time was over. I felt that I had gotten a ride like few have...I mean, I had known what it was like to be on top, and I was grateful. Now, it's come again - I'm older and, I hope, wiser.

Stoner: Wiser how?

Travolta: Here's what I've decided about myself: I've only been good at two things in my life - flying and acting. Those are the two things I'm not insecure about. So, even when nobody cared much about me, I didn't lose confidence in those two areas...maybe in other areas of my life, but not those two. So, I'm going to enjoy this second chance, but I won't be that sad whenever it ends.
