QUICK REVIEW: It's fun while the fun lasts. If they had just thought how to resolve the comic problem comically, they would have had an excellent film. As it is, they have two-thirds of a good movie. It's an intriguing and amusing situation -- sort of a reverse of the classic Greek comedy LYSISTRATA: A man who has been burned by love decides his best bet for a relationship is to cut out the attraction and sex part. For that, he (Jeff Bridges) picks a witty, but dumpy fellow teacher (Barbra Streisand). Throw in a mother (Lauren Bacall) with some dropdead wisecracks, and you have some fun moments. Problems develop when push doesn't come to shove, as the frustrated wife hopes, and they break up. What follows is typical movie sentimentality, broken up only by increasingly loving shots of Streisand's legs. Too bad, but it's amusing until then.
