Arthur and the environment
By Corinne Warnshuis, Educational Programs and Services Intern, WHYY
VIEW
Arthur is an animated television series that chronicles the life of a young aardvark. He deals with many issues faced by real kids between the ages of four and eight. He and his friends learn life lessons through a variety of situations - often emotional - told through a child's perspective. The show's goal is to help foster an interest in reading and writing, and to encourage positive social skills. Arthur airs daily at 7 a.m. It is accessible through closed-captioning to viewers who are deaf, in addition to being described for viewers who are visually impaired.

DO
Always the eager leaner, Arthur wishes to learn more about conservation and the environment. Take the challenge to "Go Green" with Arthur and friends!

Here are just a few of the tips Arthur offers:
- Turn off the water while brushing your teeth and scrubbing your hands.
- Check your water faucets to make sure they are turned off all the way.
- Ride your bike or scooter to get exercise and see nature.
- Take the bus or walk to school instead of riding in the car.
- Help hang laundry on a clothesline instead of using the dryer.
The list goes on, and you are encouraged to check off each item once you've completed it! This will help your child feel that they have contributed to the health of our planet.
