READY TO READ:
Reading with your child
When you have chosen a book, pick a place in your home with a comfortable chair, couch or floor pillow, and try to always use the same area for reading time. Introduce the book by showing the cover to your child and reading the title and author out loud.
-
Ask your child what he thinks the book is about.
-
Try using different voices for different characters.
-
Take your time reading and showing the pictures. Allow your child to ask questions or make comments throughout the book.
-
Leave time after you have finished reading to discuss the story with your child. Try to relate the story to something your child has done or read about.
-
Try to establish a regular reading schedule, for instance, every day or every other day. Quality and consistency are the most important factors.
-
Most of all, have fun,
and enjoy reading.
