Invite you to a preview screening and discussion of

Raising our Voice - emerging from the shadows of domestic abuse

"I sweat strength. Strength is in my pores. It encompasses all of me. Even my tears are strong. I've been through some scary things, and that which doesn't kill us, makes us stronger. I'm here to tell the story ..."

Teya SepinuckPlease join TOVA's Artistic Director, Teya Sepinuck, Executive Director, Susan Lowry, and performers from Raising our Voice - emerging from the shadows of domestic abuse for a unique program focusing on the theme of resiliency and hope in the face of domestic abuse. The evening will include segments of Raising our Voice, a video based on the true stories of male and female survivors, former perpetrators and witnesses of domestic abuse, and a discussion with the audience moderated by Sandra L. Bloom, M.D., a psychiatrist and the President and CEO of Community Works, who speaks nationally and internationally about the impact of traumatic experience on individuals, families, organizations, and cultures. Performances will be given by Brother Robb Carter, a social worker and performance artist who has worked with abusive men; Jennifer Helton, a young woman whose daughter was murdered by Jen's abusive partner; and Marcella Woodridge, a singer-songwriter and domestic abuse survivor.

Raising our Voice, based on the original Theater of Witness piece, serves as a catalyst for discussions around themes of abuse, violence, trauma, survival, resiliency, recovery and individual/collective responsibility. At times heart-wrenching, Raising our Voice leaves audiences with a deeper understanding of the roots, dimensions, and impact of domestic abuse both individually and societally as well as with hope for the possibility of transformation and healing.
