The Explosive Child
Children who exhibit explosive temper outbursts, defiance, and verbal and
physical aggression are often labeled as spoiled, stubborn or
manipulative. Not so fast, says Dr. Ross Greene, child psychologist at
Massachusetts General Hospital and professor of Psychology at Harvard
Medical School. Greene argues that if these children could do better, they
would - the key is to help them work through their problems. In his book,
"The Explosive Child", Greene describes new techniques to help affected
children to develop the skills needed to be more flexible and handle
frustration better.
Earlier this month on Voices in the Family, Dr. Dan Gottlieb spoke
with Dr. Greene. You can

Two
families' experiences with youth violence
In this archived Fresh Air interview,
Azim Khamisa and Ples Felix talk about the 1995 shooting
incident that brought them together. Azim's 20 year-old son,
Tariq Khamisa was fatally shot by Felix' 14 year-old grandson
Tony Hicks. Azim Khamisa reached out to Ples Felix in the
aftermath and became friends. Azim later founded the Tarik
Khamisa Foundation in San Diego and both men work to educate
children on the devastating impact of youth violence. Azim
Khamisa has written a new book about his experience in
"Azim's Bardo: A Father's Journey from Murder to Forgiveness
." (Rising Star Press)
