A Cancer Rainbow:
Snapshots From My Journey

WHYY welcomes breast cancer survivor and NBC10 reporter Lu Ann Cahn as host and moderator of this free public event, being held in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. "A Cancer Rainbow: Snapshots from my Journey" which will air on WHYY-TV on October 23rd at 10:00pm, documents filmmaker Becky Krimstein's story from breast cancer diagnosis at the age of 35 through treatment. The story focuses on the diverse emotional support systems Krimstein and other subjects in the documentary, many of them young women, developed during their journeys. Event partners include Living Beyond Beast Cancer, the Young Survival Coalition, and the Linda Creed Breast Cancer Foundation.

Event guests and panelists are:

  • Becky Krimstein, her filmmaker husband Gary Krimstein, and breast cancer survivor and documentary subject, Jeannine Salamone;

  • Local breast surgeon Dr. Beth DuPree, about whom it was said: "You couldn't have a more perfect physician on your panel. Not only is Beth DuPree extremely knowledgeable about breast cancer and one of the most successful and renowned surgeons in the Philadelphia/New Jersey region, but she is witty, personable, compassionate, and beloved by her patients," and

  • Jeanne Chavious, MSW. Chavious, a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Social Work, and a member of the Association of Oncology Social Workers, is the Director of Patient Services for Oncology at Temple University where she oversees the staff who provide counseling services for patients in the Medical, Radiation, and Bone Marrow Transplant programs. She is also on the Board of the Pennsylvania South East Region of the American Cancer Society, a Task Force member of the Linda Creed Breast Cancer Foundation's "Safe Circle " outreach and education program for African American women, and serves on the community advisory board for the Wellness Community.
