Program
The Linkage Management Development Certification Series is a skill building training
series aimed at providing managers a core skill set and the opportunity to learn
from nationally recognized trainers in their respective fields. Program materials
include weekly homework assignments, assessment instruments, articles, cases and
more. Each participant receives a certificate of completion; the series is not
available by individual session.
Session 1: Leadership, with Dr. Philip Harkins, President Linkage Inc. and author
of "Powerful Conversations," Ph.D. Harvard University
To manage in today's e-complex world requires new levels of speed and agility.
This session presents the new manager/leader competency profile, which participants
can use as a benchmark. Participants will engage in an action learning dialogue
using proven communications skills and the discipline of "Powerful Conversations"
to drive their high impact leadership style. Participants will receive action
steps and practice exercises for gaining new skills and competencies around Linkage,
Inc.'s "Leadership Assessment Profile."
What you will learn:
-How to use the LAP as a teaching and learning tool;
-The tools of Powerful Conversations to maximize your leadership strengths and improve
on your competencies;
-The discipline of using communication tools to increase your trust quotient as a leader;
and
-How to plan and manage conversations in fearful and difficult situations.
Each participant will take a self-managed assessment test indicating his/her leadership
strengths and development areas.
Session 2: Negotiation: Principles and Techniques, with Stuart Kliman, founding partner
CMI/Vantage Partners
Managers, no matter their specific functional expertise or what their day-to-day roles
entail, need the ability to negotiate effectively so they can consistently achieve
extraordinary negotiated results. Effective value-creating negotiation is
fundamental to success in internal and external customer relationships.

-A prescriptive framework to be used in preparing for, conducting, and measuring the success
of your negotiations;
-Increased personal negotiation skills;
-A plan to develop your negotiation skills;
-A clear vision for what effective negotiation in today's interdependent world looks like; and

Session 3: Foundations in Project Management, with Paul Plotzyc, Consultant
Worksystem Associates with over 20 years consulting/project management experience
This session offers a means to make rapid gains in the quality of your performance
as a Project Manager. Participants will learn the principles and key practices
of systematic project management. Core topic areas include project management
as a process, clarifying client expectations during initiation, tools for creating
a project plan, successful project close out.
What you will learn:
-How to approach project management as a process not as a series of tasks by
using a 7- step project execution process;
-How to clearly define outcomes and expectations in the project initiation
phase by asking 7 key questions;
-An understanding of the 8 critical success factors for project managers and
their role in project success; and
-How to apply specific tools to create a project plan which includes the project
objective, project tasks and deliverables, as well as a simple easy-to-use tool to
define stakeholders and the contribution that is best suited to the project objective.
Session 4: Coaching with Marshall Goldsmith, Ph.D.,one of The Wall Street
Journal's "Top 10" executive development consultants, and co-editor of "The Leader
of the Future, Leading Beyond the Walls"
Coaching for behavioral change is one of the greatest challenges for the leader of
the future. In this interactive session you will learn the keys to achieving positive,
measurable, long-term change in behavior - for yourself, your people and your team.
Learn how to use the latest approaches to giving and receiving feedback so that the
behavioral change process can be more enjoyable and more productive. You will also
learn how to create an environment where people can achieve maximum behavioral change
while minimizing wasted time.
What you will learn:
-How to encourage feedback in a way that will lead to a positive, measurable change in
your leadership behavior;
-How to effectively help your people achieve positive behavioral change; and
-How to build teams without wasting time.
Each participant will take a self-managed assessment test indicating his or her
coaching strengths and development areas.
