WHYY is jazzing it up again, with a second "THANK GOD FOR JAZZ" vespers service, this time at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, at 642 Market Street in Camden, NJ on Sunday, April 21st at 2pm.
This special afternoon of music includes local jazz luminaries Tony Williams on alto sax, Buster Williams on bass, Alan Nelson on drums, Sam Dockery on keyboards and Terell Stafford on trumpet.
The service is being presented by WHYY, the Office of Camden Mayor Gwendolyn A. Faison, the Camden Department of Health and Human Services and the Mother Church of the Camden Diocese the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.
This is the second time WHYY has presented a jazz vespers. In January 2001 WHYY offered a similar event at the First Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia. The evening was well received and marked by many phenomenal performances.
"That was a very special evening," said WHYY President and CEO William J. Marrazzo. "WHYY is fortunate to be able to do this again. To bring to the community such a moving experience really does make our region a better place."
"THANK GOD FOR JAZZ" is free and open to the public. A free-will offering will be collected during the performance. All proceeds will go to the church. A reception will follow the performance.
The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception is located at Broadway and Market Streets. From the Ben Franklin Bridge take the Broadway exit. Free and safe parking is available.
This jazz service was originally scheduled for evening of September 11, 2001, but was canceled after the attacks in New York and at the Pentagon.
