The Basics on Nutrition:

  • Nutrition plays a crucial role in the prevention and management of many diseases including heart disease, diabetes, cancer, osteoporosis, anemia and weight issues.

  • Soy may contribute to the prevention of heart disease, breast cancer and other gynecological cancers. But patients should check with their doctor before changing their diets.

  • Other foods that aid cancer prevention include: fish oils, nuts, whole grains, fortified grain products, fortified cereals, fortified pasta, antioxidants from fruits and vegetables.

  • Blood pressure is affected positively by vegetables and fruits that are orange, yellow and red.

  • Fruit juices are good for vitamins but can add a lot of extra calories. Eating the actual fruit is better for you.
