Jean-Michel Cousteau: Ocean Adventures - "Voyage to Kure"

Presented by WHYY in collaboration with the Academy of Natural Sciences.

Peabody and Emmy award-winning filmmaker Jean-Michel Cousteau follows in the footsteps of his late father Jacques, taking his team from Ocean Futures Society on a quest to explore the vast 1,200-mile chain of ecosystems called the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands, concluding on the remote island of Kure. There, they discover diverse wildlife populations above and below the sea and investigate these species' fight against extinction and the devastating effects of pollution, mining, fishing and development.

Join us for a preview screening of clips from this exciting documentary followed by a conversation with Dr. Gary Rosenberg, Vice President of ANS and Director of the Center for Systematic Biology and Evolution. Rosenberg will discuss The Academy of Natural Sciences' efforts to understand and protect tropical biodiversity.
