Chisholm '72 - Unbought and Unbossed
WHYY and Mother Bethel AME Church invite you to a free screening of selected clips and discussion of the POV documentary Chisholm '72 - Unbought and Unbossed, which highlights the life and career of Shirley Chisholm, who in 1968 became the first black woman elected to Congress. Shunned by the political establishment when she became the first black woman to run for president in 1972, she was supported by a motley crew of blacks, feminists, and young voters.
Special guest, "Chisholm" producer Phil Bertelsen, will discuss the making of the documentary and the impact that Shirley Chisholm, who died on January 1 at the age of 80, had on the times and on the future for women and people of color in politics and other arenas previously inaccessible to them. WHYY TV12 executive producer Trudi Brown will moderate the program.
