WHYY and St. Peter's School Parents Association
invite you to participate in a discussion and taping of
Bullies, Bullied, Bystanders: Finding Common Threads
for the WHYY-91FM show Voices in the Family
Dan Gottlieb, Ph.D., Host
Bullying, long-seen as a tolerated rite of passage, negatively affects our community's youth. In addition to physical and verbal bullying, other subtle forms include isolating, excluding, ignoring and spreading rumors. Low self-esteem, poor school work, and, in extreme cases, suicide or homicide result from bullying gone unchecked. "There is a culture in our schools and in our communities that allows bullying," notes program panelist Randy Ross. "The question is, how do we change that culture?"
This Voices in the Family panel discussion will explore the issues around bullying: those who bully, those who are bullied, and those who stand by and watch it happen. Audience members will have the opportunity to participate with questions and comments. Middle school and older students are invited to attend, as well as parents, educators, and concerned citizens.
