When was the last time you received a postcard?

Jennifer J. Wheeler, Manager — WHYY's Children's Service

When was the last time you received a postcard? Isn't it a great feeling when you receive one in the mail? Rather than the bills and flyers, we get a small glimpse of a new place that we maybe haven't been fortunate enough to visit. It takes you away....

Postcards from Buster is a wonderful addition to the PBS KIDS line up. Buster, of Arthur fame, explores new places, cultures, and traditions. The show creates a theme of diversity and multi-culturalism that children can experience in the home. Aside from having fun, Buster teaches us all to think globally.

VIEW

"Philadelphia Masala" premieres on Tuesday, January 9th at 7:00 am on PBS. This episode highlights the "City of Brotherly Love" and its cultural diversity. Spotlighted in this episode are two Indian religions and cultures. Buster visits with a Hindu family and a Sikh family. While he visits with these two families he learns about yoga and other Indian traditions. He even gets to visit a factory right here in the city that makes airplane food!

DO

Rather than the family taking a walk or a bike ride together for exercise, why not take a yoga class? Yoga has become extremely popular in the Philadelphia metropolitan area as an alternative to standard aerobics classes. Classes for all ages and abilities are available. A simple internet search or calling your local health club or gym can get your family on their way to learning this ancient tradition.

Why not explore the city of Philadelphia together as a family? We are fortunate to live so close to a historically relevant city just bursting with culture, activity, and FUN!
