Little Bites, Big Steps Partners and Funders![]() KERA Unlimited, Ready for Life Ready for Life is a special project of KERA. For more than 40 years, KERA has used the power of media to serve communities with quality programs and services. KERA strives to make a difference in the lives of North Texas children and their families by providing useful and relevant information through television programs, educational materials, and outreach initiatives. The goal of the Ready for Life project is to make a difference in the lives of children ages 0-5 by providing parents, caregivers and the community information about early childhood development research in useful and enjoyable ways. Ready for Life conveys important information about such developmental concepts as attachment, temperament, identity, and empathy. In addition, the program examines the process of care giving and how care giving has an impact on the emotional well being of a child. National Recreation Foundation The National Recreation Foundation is a nonprofit charitable foundation that was started to initiate and support the promotion and development of leadership, programs, and facilities in the field of recreation and parks. The NRF funding priority is given to programs that encourage the development of citizenship and social skills, stem anti-social behavior, and emphasis proactive community lifestyles and values. Priority is also given to cooperative, coordinated efforts among local, state, and national agencies that address the reduction of health care costs through prevention. The foundation supports aggressive campaigns to increase the fitness level of all Americans.

They provide money, medicines, time and equipment to non-profit organizations to help improve health and education in under-served communities. The Healthy Weight Assessment Clinic is one component of the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia's Healthy Weight Program, an umbrella for several initiatives addressing pediatric obesity. Additional program activities include clinician education and training about prevention, identification and management of pediatric obesity; enhancing the environment at CHOP to better promote healthy lifestyles and sensitivities for diverse body sizes; and the Healthy Changes Program, a lifestyle intervention for obese children with weight-related co-morbidity. More Info » The Philadelpia Grow Project The Philadelphia Grow Project comes from Drexel University’s Department of Public Health.The mission of the Philadelphia GROW Project is to partner with families to improve the growth and nutrition of their children, to prevent hunger and food insecurity, and to promote the health of Philadelphians. Get Fit New Jersey: Kidstrong(in and out) A hands-on supplemental instructional program designed for students in grades five and six, this program includes a 20 minute video, lesson plans, student activities, and other resources which highlight the following areas: Nutrition - consuming a variety of foods in moderation Physical Activity - committing to 30 minutes every day Bone Health - building a strong skeleton when young The material was developed with input from students, teachers and health specialists across the state including the state associations of health and physical education, science, family and consumer science education and school nursing. It has been cross-referenced to the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards, which encourages inter-disciplinary team teaching and focuses on building Strong Kids, both inside and out. Delaware Memorial Hospital: Healthplex Young and Fit Program This 12-week, family-oriented program is exclusively designed for overweight children ages 7 to 10 years old. Ches Penn, Healthplex® Create After-School Wellness Program for Children The number of overweight children and adolescents in the United States has more than doubled in the past 20 years. Children who are overweight and/or obese are often affected by a range of related health problems, such as diabetes, high blood pressure and increased stress on joints. In addition, 50 percent of overweight children remain overweight as adults, putting them at risk for additional health problems. To help address this growing concern and the problem they saw in a number of their own patients, the physicians and staff at Ches Penn Health Services has teamed up with the Healthplex® Sports Club to develop the Ches Penn After-School Wellness Program at Community Hospital. Virtua Health: Fitsmart for Kids FitSmart for Kids is fitness program in New Jersey that focuses on healthy eating, creating a more physically active lifestyle, improving self-esteem and communication skills. The 12-week program, geared specifically for children and adolescents ages 8 to 17, is offered in a group class or individual setting. Weekly meetings empower young people to understand that they need to be responsible for their own choices about their diet and exercise. FitSmart for Kids is family-based and to increase effectiveness, parents are required to participate. The Chester County Hospital: Shapedown for Children Children with weight management needs are seen with their parent(s) or guardian. As a licensed provider of the nationally recognized Shapedown Program, we use this successful family centered program to foster a healthier home environment and improved family dynamics.
