PNC invests in the future of our children

WHYY is delighted to partner with our friends at PNC as they embark on a new program to help prepare children for school.

PNC Grow Up Great is an early childhood education initiative that will involve grants, volunteerism, advocacy, and education and awareness programs in support of school readiness. Partners in this multi-year effort will include Sesame Workshop, producer of Sesame Street; Family Communications Inc., a company formed by the late Fred Rogers that produced Mister Rogers' Neighborhood; Head Start; and public broadcasting stations in PNC's footprint, including WHYY.

"We are dedicating our financial and human resources in a new and more powerful way to achieve greater results in school readiness, which will yield stronger, smarter, healthier children, families and communities," said James Rohr, chairman and chief executive officer of PNC.

An integral part of the PNC Grow Up Great/WHYY partnership will be support for WHYY's Ready To Learn workshops targeting child care providers, parents and preschool teachers, as well as sponsorship of the WHYY Kids Club, both of which will offer PNC employees opportunities for volunteerism. There will be additional support of WHYY Kids programming, Delaware Tonight and WHYY 91FM to further generate awareness of the initiative.

PNC said it would work with its partners to create visibility and drive action to address issues surrounding school readiness among parents, educators and public officials.
