Bob HopeA Tribute to Bob Hope
From his early days in vaudeville to his incredible generosity in sharing his talents with U.S. troops stationed around the world, Bob Hope truly earned the title of show business legend and humanitarian. This month, WHYY honors the late entertainer's memory with two special programs.

In The Road to Bali, the only one of the famed "Road" pictures to be filmed in color, Bob Hope and Bing Crosby compete for the love of a beautiful girl (Dorothy Lamour), who they follow all the way to Bali. Comic mayhem ensues as they contend with all kinds of shady natives and a variety of Hollywood stars (including a classic scene with Academy Award-winning actor Humphrey Bogart), who appear in brief cameo roles.

Bob Hope: The Road to Laughter pays tribute to Hope's long and successful career, which began in vaudeville and included performances on Broadway, radio, film and television. The special features clips from some of Hope's most entertaining and memorable movies, including scenes from The Road to Morocco, The Paleface and My Favorite Blonde, personal reminiscences from members of his writing team, and an interview with film historian Leonard Maltin.

Saluting America's Best
Each year on November 11, Americans pause to remember the thousands of brave souls who have served in the American military -- especially those who have given their lives in pursuit of freedom. WHYY presents two programs that salute their heroism and remind us that there are still countless men and women around the world who are working to ensure our safety.

Special ForcesFor the National Geographic Special "Inside Special Forces," crews were granted unprecedented access to follow the highly-skilled members of the U.S. Special Operations force as they make their way from the homefront to the frontlines to face unpredictable enemies in unfamiliar lands. The cameras capture this elite unit's integral contributions to America's current military campaigns, a role that was formalized by President John F. Kennedy to fight a new type of war by "guerrillas, subversives, insurgents and assassins."
Friday, November 7 at 1 a.m.

The American Experience program "Bataan Rescue" recounts the harrowing story of an elite special force of U.S. Army Rangers who in 1944 rescued more than 500 American soldiers held captive for three years in a Japanese prison camp deep in the jungle of the Philippines during World War II. Surviving POWs and their rescuers discuss the perilous mission to free the prisoners before their brutal captors murdered them.

Audrey HepburnSabrina (1954)
A luminous Audrey Hepburn stars as Sabrina Fairchild, the shy, awkward daughter of a chauffeur who has a crush from afar on David Larrabee (William Holden), the spoiled son of her father's wealthy employer.

Sabrina returns from an extended stay in Paris as an elegant, sophisticated woman. Much to Sabrina's delight, David is immediately infatuated with her, threatening his imminent wedding to a wealthy woman. But when David's prosaic brother Linus (Humphrey Bogart) steps in to defuse the situation, he complicates matters by succumbing to Sabrina's charms.
