Get Creative!

Kid ConcoctionsThe holiday season is almost here, and you can help your kids unleash their creativity (and save a ton of money) by encouraging them to make homemade gifts and decorations.

In Kid Concoctions, award-winning authors John and Danita Thomas (and their puppet friends) show kids how to make dozens of simple recipes and interesting contraptions, including Fruity Lip Gloss, Funny Putty, Treasure Stones, Colorful Bath Salts, and Hydro-Jet Boats, using common household ingredients.

Once the gifts are done, kids can make sweet treats like Chocolate Kisses and Applesauce Cinnamon Dough, and Sparkle Votive Candle Holders, Gum Drop Ornaments, Holiday Pomander Balls, and Peppermint Wreaths to create a festive holiday atmosphere. (Looking for a way to recycle Thanksgiving decorations? Have the kids make Indian Corn Jewelry!) -- Jennifer Fletcher
