The Philadelphia Award
Established in 1921, the Philadelphia Award is given annually to a local citizen who has helped "advance the best and largest interest of the community." WHYY President & CEO Bill Marrazzo, chair of the board of the Philadelphia Award Trustees, presents this prestigious honor to celebrated author, teacher and social activist Lorene Cary during a special ceremony in North Philadelphia's Church of Advocate, home of the Art Sanctuary, which Cary founded in 1998.
