New to Friday nights, this program features a quirky mix of stories on a wide range of topics, from commissioned jazz music, to a visit with a New York City fishmonger, to a profile of a "hard-hitting" ping-pong hustler, as it ponders the question, "What's the next big thing?" November 1 at 11 p.m

Sunday Showcase
This season, WHYY brings listeners 34 full-length concerts by The Philadelphia Orchestra and five performances by the Opera Company of Philadelphia. Host Ed Cunningham provides background information on the featured works and introduces the artists and conductors.

  • November 3 Wolfgang Sawallisch conducts Strauss' "The Happy Workshop" and Mozart's "Haffner" Serenade
  • November 10 Pianist Freddy Kempff performs Liszt's Piano Concerto No. 1.
  • November 17 Cellist Truls Mork joins the orchestra in a performance of Schumann's Series I - Mature Masterpieces: Manfred Overture, Cello Concerto and Symphony No. 4
  • November 24 Music Director-designate Christoph Eschenbach honors Maestro Sawallisch by performing as piano soloist in a program featuring the music of Beethoven and Strauss.
