Barney's Christmas StarChildren can celebrate the holidays with WHYY
By Jennifer Fletcher

Young viewers can learn important lessons on being thankful and giving joy through holiday programming on WHYY TV12:

Reading Rainbow "Giving Thanks" Host LeVar Burton stresses the importance of appreciation and thankfulness in this program, which features the book Giving Thanks, narrated by Nicholson Earl Billey, about a Native American family who gives thanks to Mother Earth for all it provides.

LeVar visits with a Native American family that honors the earth through its pottery making; a family who makes use of the earth by growing and harvesting cranberries; and a group of children in New York City who celebrate nature by planting trees. Wednesday, November 27 at 2:30 p.m.

Jay Jay The Jet Plane "Snuffy’s Thanksgiving" It’s Thanksgiving, and everyone’s excited about the Big Tarrytown Airport Thanksgiving dinner. Everyone, that is, except Snuffy. The little plane is worried because he’s not quite sure he has anything to be thankful for. When Big Jake gets caught in a dangerous storm and almost misses the Thanksgiving celebration, Snuffy realizes he’s thankful that he can spend time with all of his good friends. Thursday, November 28 at 11:30 a.m.

Barney’s Christmas Star ’Tis the season to be jolly and to celebrate the holidays with Barney! In this new holiday special, Barney and his friends are trimming the tree in the community park when they realize the antique Christmas star is missing. While hunting in Grammy’s attic to find it, they discover vintage clothes and furniture, classic books and a chest full of old toys. Barney’s Christmas Star reinforces the value of simple holiday pleasures, such as trimming the tree with loved ones, singing traditional yuletide favorites and giving to others. Saturday, November 30 at 7 a.m.
