WHYY Remembers

Commemorating 9/11 on WHYY-FM
Edited by Tara DellaFranzia and Jennifer Fletcher

Each of us has, in some way, felt the impact of September 11. Within our own communities here in the Delaware Valley, we have seen the results of a changed society. Since that day, WHYY-FM's news and information team has reported on some of the ways our region has been directly affected, including the economic impact on the region, changes in police and fire departments, how councelors have helped school children deal with their emotions and comments on the events from local Muslims. These segments will air at various times throughout the 91FM schedule between Monday, September 2 and Wednesday, September 11.

Following are just some of the special programs airing on 91FM to commemorate the one-year anniversary of September 11:

A Need To Belong: Citizenship in a Post-9/11 America This program looks in-depth at the impact of September 11 on all people, as told through the stories of the nation's most diverse state, California, and by people abroad.
Wednesday, September 4 at 2 p.m.

Defending the Future Focusing on the future of the American military in the wake of September 11, this program examines the effects on military personnel, many of whom have expressed frustrations about pursuing an enemy that remains faceless and fighting a war that seems endless.

Living with Terror: The World Speaks a Year after 9/11 People from all over the globe will express their feelings about the effects of September 11 on their lives during this live call-in program.

Days of Infamy After the attack on Pearl Harbor, Americans vowed to enlist, ration and buy war bonds. After September 11, Americans vowed to pray, fly flags, write checks to the Red Cross and "get back to normal." This program combines the reactions of Americans who survived both tragedies, including journalist Helen Thomas and artist Albert Murray, to look at a nation in crisis across sixty years.
Monday, September 9 at 2 p.m.

Changed New York New York City has changed dramatically since September 11 and New Yorkers have suffered tremendously. This program presents the stories of the people whose lives have been affected the most as they cope with grief and loss.
