Edited by Mary Eileen O'Connor It's Muffy Crosswire's dream come true: the Backstreet Boys are coming to Elwood City as part of their world tour! The Backstreet Boys -- Nick, Brian, Kevin, Howie D. and AJ -- star as animated versions of themselves in the new one-hour special Arthur "It's Only Rock 'n' Roll," airing Monday, September 2 at 10 a.m. on WHYY TV12. Muffy is the most excited of anyone when she hears the news: she is the group's number-one fan, and she can't wait to meet her favorite heartthrob Nick Carter! She also is convinced that, once she meets the band, they will choose her to be their new manager. But not everyone is so thrilled that the Backstreet Boys are performing in Elwood City, however. Francine soon tires of listening to Muffy gush about her love for Nick and the group, so she decides to create her own "anti-cute, anti-commercial" band called U Stink. Much to everyone's surprise, U Stink becomes a huge success, and Francine is in danger of losing her friendship with Muffy and her band mates. All ends well when, through a Hard Day's Night-esque chain of events, U Stink and the Backstreet Boys sing and dance together on stage at the Backstreet Boys' concert, teaching the gang that making music is not as easy as it looks. The Backstreet Boys also add their unique musical style to the Arthur theme song and perform two new, original songs -- "Manager of My Dreams" and "Nothin' But the Music" -- both written for the special. The special includes a behind-the-scenes look at how Arthur creator Marc Brown turned the members of one of the world's most successful bands into animated characters. Arthur "It's Only Rock 'n' Roll" airs Monday, September 2 at 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on WHYY TV12. |
