Something Old, Something NewWHYY presents an afternoon of programs
dedicated to tying the knot
On Saturday, March 16, WHYY's in-studio experts teach you how to make the crafts, flowers and food that go into making your special day, well, your day. In between the live demonstrations, gather something old, new, borrowed and blue from the following programs: Something old is in store on Ciao Italia. In this episode, "Torcolo de San Costanzo," Mary Ann Esposito shares the time-honored recipe for St. Costanzo's bread. It's an Italian tradition that the bridegroom-to-be present this sweet delicacy to his bride since it's in the shape of a wedding ring. Something new is the news of Tanya's wedding. Join in the fun as Lidia from Lidia's Italian Table prepares for her daughter's wedding by cooking a traditional Istrian wedding feast. Dishes include Istrian wedding pillows with a sweet, fragrant and spicy filling, sauerkraut with smoked sausages, ham hocks, smoked pork ribs and pork butt. Something borrowed is the years of experience that Julia Child and Martha Stewart bring you in Baking with Julia and Martha Stewart as they create the perfect wedding cake. The duo prepares the batter and bakes each layer in graduated, diamond-shaped cake forms and then explains how to assemble the grand and glorious cake. Something blue is the blood of Britain's royal family in Royal Wedding Bells. Walk down the aisle with Elizabeth and Philip (1947), Charles and Diana (1981) and Andrew and Fergie (1986). The special takes a behind-the-scenes look at the engagements, preparations and wedding days of these and other famous and noble couples. |
