WHYY Late Night

French In Action
This WHYY Home College Service course combines video, audio and print to teach French in the dynamic context of French-speaking cultures. Each program is composed of an episode of an original romantic comedy followed by images that illustrate and explain its contents, allowing learners to see and hear native speakers interacting in familiar situations.
Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6 a.m.

Faces of Culture
The Home College Service course introduces learners to cultural anthropology through a provocative study of the structure and process of culture. The program features dramatic film footage from around the world, embracing cultures from all continents, highlighting major lifestyles and illustrating human adaptation to environment from the beginnings of the human species to the present.
Fridays at 2 a.m.

Prisoners in ParadisePrisoners in Paradise
During World War II, more than 51,000 Italian soldiers were brought to the United States as prisoners of war. This poignant documentary traces the previously untold story of these young men, their romances and friendships with American women and their significant, but unrecognized, contribution to the Allied war effort.

That Crazy English Language with Richard Lederer
Why does night fall but never break and day break but never fall? The uproarious adventure known as English is given comic evaluation in this program. Richard Lederer, well-known author, lecturer and weekly guest on National Public Radio's All Things Considered explores English both as a global language and as a haven for oxymorons and redundancies.
