WHYY for KidsTwo new programs make math and science fun for kids With eye-popping animation and sly comic flair, the new, animated adventure series Cyberchase, debuting Monday, January 21 at 4 p.m. on WHYY TV12, sends a powerful message: math is fun. Math is all about problem solving, and it comes in handy when the evil villain Hacker launches a mad mission to conquer the cyberworld. Luckily, there's Jackie, Matt and Inez, three Earth kids and the heroes of Cyberchase, who along with their cyber-bird Digit travel from the realm of the real world to the colorful virtual vistas of cyberspace. In an all-out battle of wits, the kids vanquish the bad guys with the only weapon they have: brain power. Featuring the voices of Christopher Lloyd and Gilbert Gottfried, each episode is driven by a different math concept. The kids tackle time in ancient Egyptian tombs, crack codes in creepy caves and make sense of numbers in a fractured fairy tale word, using their math skills to keep the cyberworld from Hacker's evil grip. After watching the program, young viewers can join the Cyber Squad on pbskids.org to continue the chase with cool games, puzzles and original adventures. Real kids, real science The new kid-centered science program DragonflyTV, premiering Sunday, January 20 at 9:30 a.m., features real kids pursuing their own scientific investigations. Whether diving into a kelp forest, paragliding off a towering mountainside or cooking up experiments in their own kitchens, the kids share the excitement that comes with making their own discoveries, encouraging other kids to explore, question and learn. |
