Cooking in Real Time
WHYY presents "Cooking in Real Time," its second-annual cooking series designed for busy people who want to learn how to prepare quick, healthy meals. The series consists of three Saturday-morning sessions, which will be held at The Restaurant School, 4207 Walnut Street in Philadelphia.

  • January 19 Author Sam Gugino will teach participants how to cook inspired meals in 15 minutes by demonstrating techniques from his book Cooking to Beat the Clock.
  • January 26 James Barrett of the Metropolitan Bakery in Philadelphia will host a session on baking bread.
  • February 2 Jim Coleman, executive chef and host of WHYY's A Chef's Table, heard Saturdays at noon on WHYY 91FM, will delight participants with recipes and tips from his new book Jim Coleman's Flavors. Coleman is also the host of Flavors of America, seen Saturdays at 3:30 p.m. on TV12.

Each session begins at 9 a.m. with registration and a continental breakfast and concludes at 1 p.m. following a light lunch. The cost for WHYY members is $35 per session and $90 for the complete series. For non-members, the cost is $50 per session and $150 for the complete series. Reservations are highly recommended. Womens Way panel discussion
The Womens Way organization, one of WHYY's newest community partners, celebrates 25 years of challenging inequality, implementing change and meeting women's unmet needs across the Delaware Valley with various special educational events throughout 2002.

Physicians, nurses and other health care experts from Philadelphia's MCP Hahnemann University will discuss new frontiers in reproductive health, the impact of domestic violence on women's health and the two top killers of women: heart and lung disease at the forum "Changing Debates in Women's Health" on Thursday, January 24 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Moore College of Art and Design, 20th Street and the Parkway in Philadelphia.

WHYY presents 'Taste of The Book and The Cook'
WHYY invites you to enjoy great food, wonderful wines, beer and spirits at "The Taste of The Book and The Cook" on Wednesday, February 20 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. in the Millennium Ballroom of the Loews Philadelphia Hotel, 12th and Market Sts.

Guests will have a chance to taste dishes that will be prepared by guest cookbook authors at restaurants throughout the city during one of America's leading dining events, the 18th annual KitchenAid "The Book and The Cook," held from March 15 through 24.

WHYY's Christina Pirello, host of TV12's Christina Cooks, and Chef Jim Coleman, host of 91FM's A Chef's Table and Flavors of America on TV12, will be on-hand to prepare their own unique recipes, and nearly 30 of the region's best restaurants will offer previews of the dishes that will be a part of the special menus featured in The Book and The Cook Restaurant Series. Guests will be able to make reservations for upcoming The Book and The Cook dining events that evening.
