WHYY Home College Service WHYYs Home College Service,
established in 1996, makes college more convenient. Some 17,000 students
used this service last year to work toward their degrees or just brush
up on an intriguing subject. Courses cover all the basics, from sociology
and psychology to language and the arts. WHYY has formed the Educational
Technology Consortium (ETC), a group of 12 colleges and universities
in the region, to provide and administer the courses. Many students tape
the courses that are broadcast overnight on WHYY-TV, but a growing number
enroll in Internet-based classes, using WebStudy, the course management system that is hosted at WHYY. In an exciting new development that offers tremendous growth potential, WHYY, with its Educational Technology Consortium partners, recently became the only public broadcasting station selected for a project to help expand the reach of "PBS Campus" course content. WHYY will become a national distributor, working with the Consortium to market degree programs from member colleges to students anywhere in the country.
