WHYY hosts many events each year designed to connect with and engage its community. More than 75 events such as the WHYY Connections Festival and WHYY Y12K Road Race were held in 2011, drawing 24,000 community members.
WHYY's Wider Horizons provides programs specially designed to appeal to those looking forward to or living the second half of life with emphases on retirement, caregiving, social engagement and creativity. WHYY's Educational Programs and Services features a range of programming such as on-air programs, off-air outreach programs, events, professional development opportunities and online services.

WHYY's Dorrance H. Hamilton Public Media Commons provides instruction in multimedia production such as creating slideshows and short documentaries through several programs and courses. About 650 community members participated in Hamilton Commons offerings in 2011.
