Associate Producer, Fresh Air

An excellent opportunity for an individual with three to four years experience in either radio production or journalism to join the Fresh Air staff. The primary responsibilities for this position include interview logging & editing, research and other production assignments. The successful candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in a related field, a working knowledge and familiarity with digital editing, strong writing skills - including punctuation and grammar, previous experience using Nexus/Lexus or other complex on-line research tools and an active interest and familiarity with a wide range of news, arts, and/or entertainment topics. Fluency in French, Spanish or other foreign languages a plus. In addition to a resume and cover letter, interested applicants should submit an a writing sample. 9/10/09


Interim News Director

WHYY is seeking an experienced news director to manage its FM Newsroom on an interim basis; approximately six to 10 weeks. The ideal candidate will possess 5 or more years managing a newsroom or producing a daily news & information program; demonstrated effectiveness as a staff manager or administrator required. Other requirements include sound knowledge of the legal and ethical standards of broadcast journalism; excellent editorial judgment; well-defined interpersonal skills in order to communicate effectively with staff and fellow news directors in order to share content as well as colleagues in technical, production and administrative departments. A Bachelor's degree in a related discipline and digital editing experience are also required. To succeed in this assignment, the individual should also possess excellent organizational skills, previous experience scheduling staff and resources, and have the ability to produce quality work in a deadline driven, demanding environment. Familiarity with the issues concerning residents of the region and established contacts with local and/or regional directors preferred. (10/27/09)


Morning Edition, Host/Producer

A full-time opportunity available for an experienced Host/Producer to anchor NPR's Morning Edition program, along with writing and producing content. The successful candidate will have a strong background in broadcasting or journalism, including excellent writing and interviewing skills; a minimum of three years on-air experience is required; and a personable on-air presentation is a must. Candidate must have experience in live and taped interview situations, including breaking news. Exceptional production skills and editorial judgement are also expected. Responsibilities include hosting WHYY's flagship program, generating and delivering high-quality, enterprising content for multiple platforms. Other duties include hosting special events and participating in fundraising. The host will be a WHYY ambassador to the community. This position requires irregular hours on a regular basis. A familiarity with the Philadelphia region and an understanding of NPR's style and programming is preferred. Knowledge of digital audio editing and web publishing are a plus. A CD of recent on-air work is required. (7/27/09)
